There is a difference between what is called in Japan "Honne" and "Tatame". This is the difference between what you really think and what you show to the world. If, for you, the two things are too close, then you are giving the world too much of a lever with which it can manipulate you. Do not let anyone ever know what you really feel or think. Be very clear in your own mind where you stand but don't let those outside know.
Keep the stiff upper lip. Don't let them know what hurts or offends you or what things give you satisfaction. Maintain your outward persona carefully. You can use humour to great effect in keeping the outer world out of your inner thoughts.
If you maintain this outer ring of defense around your mind, you will protect yourself both from those who would be deliberately cruel to you and those who would hurt you through ignorance or through their neutral pursuit of their own ends without a care in the world for your welfare.
Very often, too, if you reveal too much about your own personal inner thoughts, you will not be believed. If, for example, you genuinely want to be good, generous and helpful, without the slightest care for your own gain, you will not be believed because everyone else is thinking one thing and saying another and will assume that you are too.
In particular, do not reveal your true thoughts about business, work, investments etc. The system, economy and the institutions are all set up to keep the wealthy wealthy and the poor poor. Any knowledge that you have that works in your favour and against the status quo is knowledge that has been hard won and is not to be shared with those who would misuse it or use it against you.
This is a very practical application of the principle of Omerta.

238. The Folly of Hatred.
Never hate your enemies. It clouds your judgement. Hatred can take over your mind if you allow it to and will prevent you from controlling your life. Hatred immobilises you. Hatred poisons you. If others know that you harbour hatred, they can use that knowledge to control and manipulate you.

141. Psychopathy and Psychopaths.
Regretably, there exist in the world people who are totally ruthless. They do not care what happens so long as they gain an advantage. In all things, a certain level of ruthlessness is necessary - otherwise nothing would be achieved. We are not talking about that here. What we are considering here is a medically recognised condition - psychopathy.
The psycopath is often highly intelligent.(And this makes him even more dangerous). He believes that self-gratification is the highest good. He indulges his whims and impulses regardless of the rights of others. He is indifferent (in the uncaring sense) to the suffering of others. In the same way, a psychopath will have no regard for the truth (save where it suits his book) and is capable of the most bare-faced of lies. It is very unwise to take anything said by one at face value. A psychopath may be possessed of a superficial charm which he uses to his advantage. He is ingratiating and manipulative. He is an expert at using others to gain his ends. The psychopath will often only plan for the short-term, losing sight of the bigger picture. He is glib, superficial, impulsive and lacks any sense of responsibility.
A psychopath usually has a grossly inflated sense of his own importance and covets grand titles and trappings of office. They often have an exaggerated faith in their own abilities and fail to see their own shortcomings which are obvious to others.
A psycopath is often impulsive and easily bored.
The psychopath often has his own complex moral code taking elements from religions and philosophies that suit his own beliefs.
They are devoid of conscience and never show remorse.
They are chillingly in control of their emotions.
Differential Diagnosis :-
A PSYCHOTIC is not rational and is unaware of what they are doing or that it is wrong. A PSYCHOPATH underststands the difference between right and wrong and acts violently or criminally because he knows but DOES NOT CARE that his actions have terrible consequences for others.
The psychopath is incapable of feeling guilt. They like to exercise power over others. They lie continuously and are unmoved when found out. They are narcissistic, egocentric and see themselves as above the law and justified in living according to their own rules. Their plans are often on a grand scale. They will justify their actions to the end.
True psychopaths are far more common than one might expect. The estimated occurance in the USA is 1 in every 125. - approximately 2,000,000. New York City has 100,000. Psychopathy does not have a cure. The psychopath sees no reason to change.
These people are extremely dangerous and you should avoid them. For this reason it is importand to recognise the symptoms and identify them. If you work for one, quit. If one works for you, fire him. If you are married to one, annul the marriange.
Cleckley's original list of symptoms of a psychopath:
1. Considerable superficial charm and average or above average intelligence.
2. Absence of delusions and other signs of irrational thinking
3. Absence of anxiety or other "neurotic" symptoms considerable poise, calmness, and verbal facility.
4. Unreliability, disregard for obligations no sense of responsibility, in matters of little and great import.
5.Untruthfulness and insincerity
6. Antisocial behavior which is inadequately motivated and poorly planned, seeming to stem from an inexplicable impulsiveness.
7.Inadequately motivated antisocial behavior
8.Poor judgment and failure to learn from experience
9. Pathological egocentricity. Total self-centeredness incapacity for real love and attachment.
10. General poverty of deep and lasting emotions.
11. Lack of any true insight, inability to see oneself as others do.
12. Ingratitude for any special considerations, kindness, and trust.
13. Fantastic and objectionable behavior, after drinking and sometimes even when not drinking - vulgarity, rudeness, quick mood shifts, pranks.
14. No history of genuine suicide attempts.
15. An impersonal, trivial, and poorly integrated seX life.
16. Failure to have a life plan and to live in any ordered way, unless it be one promoting self-defeat.
These people are like M.Scott Peck's "People of the Lie" in that while they exist in every walk of life, they are very often found within religious orders and schools of esoteric teachings (philosophies). These are often the last place one might expect to find them, but they hide there nonetheless.

99. Mental Attitude
You have complete right of control at all times over your mental attitude.Only you have this right. Others may and indeed will try to hijack it on you and try to manipulate you for their own purposes, usually to your great disadvantage.Do not permit this.

56. Becoming a No-Limit Person
The way to become a No-Limit person is by use of your mind. You need to evolve from being a high anger and manipulating being to be a person of high levels of peace and no anger. The stages are through mobilisation and non-offensive expression. A very important aspect of non-offensive expression is non-agitative speech (anudwega wachana in Sanskrit) This is speech that does not cause agitation. It is said to be one of the Treasures of the Godly.

54. Loving Yourself and Others
You want to treat those you love with love. To be like that you need to be a fight-free person, a peaceful warrior. If you love yourself you will not allow yourself to :
a. become overweight.
b. become anorexic or bulimic.
c. become addicted to alcohol, drugs, sex, tobacco, t.v. etc.
d. become the victim of guilt, worry or anger (your own or others').
e. become involved in fights, arguments, conflicts wars etc.
If you love yourself then you will treat yourself with respect. Among other things, this means that you will not allow others to lure you into fights. When you do this, they will realise that you think too much of yourself to waste precious moments of your life in the pain agony and distress caused by fighting.
Live your life as an example of someone who is deeply peaceful and who cannot be bought and sold emotionally at the whim of others or through their lack of consideration.
Learn to avoid leaving the keyboard of your internal computer in the street where anyone can randomly push your buttons for fun.

47. Worry
Worry is the twin sister of guilt. To worry is to use up the present moment being obsessed with the future. Like guilt, worry can be used to manipulate people. This is a favourite tactic of politicians when they want to get their own way. Bullies use it as a tactic too. Worry manufactures anxiety. 99.99% of the things we worry about never happen. Great thinkers, leaders inventors are not worriers. If you worry, it steals your time and immobilises you in the present with fearful thoughts about the future. Do not waste even 1 second worrying. If you assign a €1.00 value to a second of your life, then 1 day is equivalent to €84,000. Don't waste even 1 second - you might be glad of it some day. Worry will never prevent a tragedy, only sensible precautions will do that. Train and prepare for the worst case scenario then you will have everything covered.
The only value to worries is that they can motivate you to take action regarding the issue - if you're worried about exams then get busy studying !
